Overview of Plant Disease Diagnoses for 2012

Lane county typically sends up to 100 samples per year. In 2012 growers submitted a variety of vegetables, fruit trees and small fruits, nut trees and field crops many of which had fungal pathogens associated with root rot. Greenhouse producers of vegetable starts and herbaceous ornamentals submitted various fungal diseases associated with damping off, stem canker, and root rot. Homeowners had blueberries with Blueberry necrotic shock virus and Botrytis associated with leaf and flower bud dieback. Landscape maples were found to have wood rot fungi. Nurseries had woody ornamentals with fungi associated with stressed plants, and small fruits with Phytophthora root rot.
